This is it, we’re more than halfway through the month of July, the 7th month away from Christmas. 5 months to go. So what can we do to get that Holiday spirit in July.
It’s interesting how no holiday can come close to Christmas. And I don’t feel bad excluding the other holidays of other religions that also fall in December, because really, to me, Christmas is more about a feeling. Besides, they’re all the same-filled with family, gifts, celebration and all sorts of hidden feelings, family squabbles and insecurities brought to the forefront by too much eggnog or other alcoholic beverage. But I’m not here to talk about the need for more therapy in America.
Why is it that this Holiday can be twenty times as big as most others when it’s just one more day, with Christmas Eve? How can the tiny little light bulbs inspire joy, love and random acts of kindness the way no fireworks display on the 4th can come close? Hell Jesus, died, AND THEN ROSE FROM THE DEAD, on Easter, yet it doesn’t hold a candle to the little baby wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger? The kid hadn’t even said a word yet, let alone do his first miracle.
Ah, who knows. Probably so many factors to explain this phenomenon but I’m more interested in wondering, how do we create this feeling of genuine warmth here in the month of July? In much of the country there’s a great heatwave, can’t that be of some assistance? What can we possibly do to inspire that unselfishness that flows through the second half of December?
I’ve got the only answer. Split it up. Why have the twelve days of Christmas when we can have the twelve months of Christmas. Heck, there’s so many people that don’t even take their lights down until it’s warm enough, they just don’t turn them on. Kids would get a present every month, I’m thinking that’s going to balance the scales of naughty and nice. You really should get together with family more often, but we won’t put the pressure on the whole family getting together every month. It’ll be more like sub-family groupings.
Everybody’s going to win. Pressure will be lessened, the economy will get better because things will be more spread out, and…and…e’re all gonna be a little bit nicer year round.
